Ok Preppers... how many of you in here are licensed ham radio operators? Letís get a head count. We have some exciting things happening here. Post your callsign and QTH (doesnít have to be exact location) and what modes you have access too. Mine is in the comments. Iíll post more once we have the details straightened out.
Just to say this, we are building a network where we can hold weekly nets and talk prepper stuff. If you havenít gotten into digital modes, DMR, Dstar, or fusion, look into it DMR radios are pretty cheap and you can get a hotspot that puts you on a DMR network and you can take it anywhere you go. Although it does require internet so itís a resource that may not be useable in a SHTF situation. We also have capabilities of using 2m SSB which I have been playing around with. Dstar can also be used over HF and doesnít require internet but has internet sources. If you are interested in learning more about these modes or are interested in becoming a ham or have any questions at all, post up here or send me a message.
I also posted this on the DRP Facebook page. Letís get a net going so we can share ideas and grow this discussion.
For OPSEC/privacy reasons I will not post my callsign or QTH. But I am a ham in the middle of the USA. My station is 100% off the grid. For fun I operate HF data modes but for SHTF purposes I go with SSB almost exclusively on the belief that if the ballon pops, no one will be fooling around with computers. Keep is simple.
I would like to try DMR, Fusion, etc., I just have not gotten around to it due to involving myself in too many projects. I've seen a many on-line efforts to start prepper ham nets but none of them ever seem to go anywhere. I'm open to the idea and am willing to contribute.
